Excellent care with compassion.

That is Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s (LTH) motto.

To provide this excellent care, LTH needs to ensure the right items are getting to the right patient at its hospitals.

Connecting the right patient to the right care

Posted by David Stain November 14, 2017 at 3:38 AM

There is simply no room for error in hospitals when it comes to patient ID. It is vital that medical staff match records, medication, specimens and more to the right patient.

Recognising this, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) has deployed Zebra HC100 Wristband Printers and Zebra Z-Band Ultrasoft Wristbands. And numerous other NHS Trusts across the UK have deployed or are trialling similar patient ID solutions from Zebra Technologies.

Demystifying PPID

Posted by Zebra EMEA August 16, 2016 at 12:17 PM

Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, mistakes inevitably occur within the healthcare sector. The World Health Organisation found that around 23% of European Union citizens claim to have been directly affected by medical error. Whilst many mistakes are easily rectified, the consequences for some unwitting patients can be serious harm or even death.

What to consider when choosing a patient wristband

Posted by Zebra EMEA May 13, 2016 at 7:41 AM

Accurate patient identification (ID) is vital if a hospital is to protect its patients and staff, and provide the best standard of care. Fundamental to ensuring this is a hospital’s use of patient wristbands. In our survey of public and private hospitals throughout Europe, conducted by IDG on behalf of Zebra Technologies, we wanted to learn what decisions hospitals are making with regards to patient wristbands and why.

Patient ID in Ambulatory Settings

Posted by Andy Tippet November 4, 2014 at 8:06 AM

According a recent article in Hospitals and Health Networks Magazine, “the number of outpatient surgeries grew by 40% over a ten year period …Although nearly two-thirds of U.S. surgeries are performed in the ambulatory setting, little is known about patient safety and care quality in this arena. But that’s quickly changing.”

One of the keys to patient safety, implemented extensively throughout hospitals, is the ability to positively identify patients, primarily through barcoded wristbands. Though these wristbands have not been as widespread in the ambulatory setting, the critical need to increase patient safety in this area of the continuum means that soon patients will receive these identifiers regardless of the time it takes to receive their healthcare.

Brilliant barcoding: the big brains in a band

Posted by Zebra EMEA April 24, 2014 at 10:48 AM

We’ve all heard the stereotype that doctors have illegible handwriting. And though that may not always be true, the need for things to be written by hand is diminishing – and for good reason.

Barcode technology is increasingly being utilised in the medical industry, to check and verify patient records, to link samples and test results to patients, and to provide medical professionals with other vital information, at the touch of a button.

Enhancing your event experience with tracking technology

Posted by Zebra EMEA March 25, 2014 at 10:11 AM

Today, delegate and sponsor expectations are higher than ever – and there is ever-increasing pressure placed on the event industry to keep up with these constantly growing demands. From festivals and flower shows to symposiums and seminars, those attending, funding and working at events want nothing short of the best.

This can prove a challenge, especially with the significant projected growth of the industry, which means that event organisers are handling bigger budgets – and therefore bigger visitor numbers.

In these times of austerity, ROI is a watchword for businesses – but with this in mind, do we really get value for money when we attend an event, as either a delegate or a sponsor?

Thanks to modern tracking technologies that can improve efficiency, profitability and event experience, the answer can be “yes”.

Barcoding in our hospitals: because we’re only human

Posted by Zebra EMEA December 10, 2013 at 6:50 AM

If there’s anyone we put our ultimate trust in, it’s our doctors.

And rightly so –your GP knows all about you: your age, your blood type, your allergies, your medical history and the medication that you take. Your records are safely stored in a database, which could be accessed by other medical professionals in an emergency situation.

Best Practices for Bar Code Wristband Formatting

Posted by Sabine Nickel July 5, 2011 at 10:58 AM

How Get the Most from Your Wristband Deployment

There’s plenty of case information proving that bar coded wristbands can help improve patient safety, boost quality of care, and achieve industry mandates. But, not all wristband deployments take advantage of the full value bar coding can deliver. Realizing the most benefit requires that the information provided on the wristband must afford easy readability, and deliver the correct information.

If you are looking at various patient ID solutions, you must take into account formatting considerations to ensure you make the optimal choice. This is especially crucial during the first 30 days of looking at a patient ID solution.
